Unhurried hairdressing, on purpose
New Light exists for people who want a hairdresser who listens — someone who asks about your mornings before asking about your Pinterest board.
A salon that starts with a question
Most haircut disappointments are not cutting failures — they are listening failures. The shape was fine; it simply belonged to someone else’s life. So every visit here begins with a proper conversation: how your hair behaves, what you enjoy doing with it, and how much time it honestly gets.
From there, the technical work follows — precise cutting, considered colour, careful finishing. We keep the menu deliberately short and do each thing properly, rather than offering everything at average depth.
The result we are after is quiet: hair that looks like yours on a very good day, and keeps behaving for weeks after you leave.
Three working principles
Listening first
Consultation is a real stage of the appointment, with time protected for it. We would rather talk for ten extra minutes than cut one wrong centimetre.
Honest advice
If a style will fight your texture, your cowlicks or your schedule, we will say so and suggest the version that will not. No flattery, no upselling.
Hair health over drama
We favour colour and treatments your hair can sustain. The slow route — glosses, blended lightness, regular trims — reads better after six months than the dramatic one.
Technique in service of texture
Our cutting education covers precision geometry, razor work and dry-cutting for curls — and we reach for whichever the hair in front of us requires. Curly hair is cut dry, curl by curl. Fine hair is cut for density at the perimeter. Thick hair is relieved from the inside, so the surface stays clean.
We read and write about hair constantly. The journal is where some of that study ends up — long, honest guides to cuts and colour, written to be useful rather than to sell.
Come and have the conversation
Every good haircut starts with questions, not scissors. Tell us about your hair and we will take it from there.
